{"id":675,"date":"2014-02-22T12:40:39","date_gmt":"2014-02-22T20:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/systemsolver.com\/StatlerBlog\/?p=675"},"modified":"2014-02-22T12:40:39","modified_gmt":"2014-02-22T20:40:39","slug":"linux-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systemsolver.goodhealthyday.com\/StatlerBlog\/2014\/02\/22\/linux-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Linux again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I installed Linux Mint xfce and ran into nvidia video and RealTek rt8192ce wireless card issues.<\/p>\n<p>I had previously remarked on the <a title=\"Linux Mint 15 KDE 64bit\" href=\"http:\/\/systemsolver.com\/StatlerBlog\/index.php\/2013\/11\/02\/linux-mint-15-kde-64bit\/\">video issue<\/a>, but the wireless issue is new because, well, I didn&#8217;t have a wireless card to deal with before.<\/p>\n<h3>Updating the nvidia video drivers:<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.howtoeverything.net\/linux\/hardware\/installing-nvidia-drivers-in-linux-mint\">http:\/\/www.howtoeverything.net\/linux\/hardware\/installing-nvidia-drivers-in-linux-mint<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In summary<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>sudo apt-get install\u00a0nvidia-detect<\/em><\/li>\n<li>after the install:<em> sudo nvidia-detect<\/em><\/li>\n<li>in the following command replace nvidia-glx if nvidia-detect tells you a different package is needed<\/li>\n<li><em>sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx nvidia-settings nvidia-xconfig<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>sudo nvidia-xconfig<\/em><\/li>\n<li>reboot<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Why a reboot? The nvidia driver installs a kernel module that has to be loaded on startup.<\/p>\n<h3>Installing the wireless drivers:<\/h3>\n<p>The RealTek rt8192ce wireless card was found, and network broadcasts were listed but the password constantly failed to be acknowledged.\u00a0 I&#8217;m gong to have to come back and update this with the results, but so far I have the following to test:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make a change in a system-connections file:\n<ul>\n<li>First, try to connect even though the password will fail &#8212; this creates the file referred to below.<\/li>\n<li>Go to &lt;\/etc\/NetworkManager\/system-connections\/SSID of net&gt; and changed &lt;system-ca-certs=true&gt; to false.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>I haven&#8217;t gotten far in it, but here&#8217;s a site with a list of wireless drivers<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/wireless.kernel.org\/en\/users\/Drivers\">http:\/\/wireless.kernel.org\/en\/users\/Drivers<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Google <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=linux+mint+realtek+8192ce&amp;ie=utf-8&amp;oe=utf-8&amp;aq=t&amp;rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&amp;client=firefox-a&amp;channel=sb\">linux mint realtek 8192cu<\/a> for more info to research.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/forums.linuxmint.com\/viewtopic.php?t=43055&amp;f=49\">http:\/\/forums.linuxmint.com\/viewtopic.php?t=43055&amp;f=49<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good luck to me~<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I installed Linux Mint xfce and ran into nvidia video and RealTek rt8192ce wireless card issues.
