Following are links to programs that proport to solve that problem.<\/p>\n<p>NameCleaner is an industrial-strength utility for Macintosh to manipulate file names and types. It is specially designed to help move files to and from Windows and Unix. ($25)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sigsoftware.com\/namecleaner\/\">http:\/\/www.sigsoftware.com\/namecleaner\/<\/a><br \/>\n(On edit: worked great, definately worth $25 to me. They would allow three free uses on up to x number of files but I opted to pay the price and just get the job done. The program works on the Mac end&#8211;cleaned out the file name characters PCs can&#8217;t read and added the extensions PCs need to open the related programs).<\/p>\n<p>MacExplorer<br \/>\n**Displays the Macintosh type of the files (XPress, Photoshop, Word, etc.), allowing to a Windows user to know the kind of the files without their 3 characters extensions<br \/>\n**Runs on Windows 95\/98\/ME, NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.<br \/>\nNote: MacExplorer runs on 95\/98 but the peculiarities of the Macintosh files are not displayed on this platform (signatures, resource sizes, comments)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/peccatte.karefil.com\/Software\/MacExp\/MacExpENG.htm\">http:\/\/peccatte.karefil.com\/Software\/MacExp\/MacExpENG.htm<\/a><br \/>\n(On edit: This program let me see the files and make some minor changes but it was very limited and not really worth the bother)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My problem was Mac files named in a way that Windows could not open or even recognize them.
