{"id":1836,"date":"2016-06-24T03:00:08","date_gmt":"2016-06-24T11:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/systemsolver.com\/StatlerBlog\/?p=1836"},"modified":"2016-06-24T03:00:08","modified_gmt":"2016-06-24T11:00:08","slug":"linux-slow-shutdown-samba-shares","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/systemsolver.goodhealthyday.com\/StatlerBlog\/2016\/06\/24\/linux-slow-shutdown-samba-shares\/","title":{"rendered":"linux slow shutdown samba shares"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was having a 120 second delay in shutdown of my Linux Mint 17 Mate.<\/p>\n<p>I discovered what it was by editing \/etc\/grub<\/p>\n<p>GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=&#8221;quiet splash&#8221;<br \/>\nto<br \/>\nGRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=&#8221;quiet&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>then run command<\/p>\n<p><code>sudo update-grub<\/code><\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to run it back when done looking at what happens when you shut down.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out it was shares not getting umounted. I got something like &#8220;server 10.22.0.9 has not responded in 120 seconds&#8221;. Of course, I had to wait 120 seconds to see that and it flashed by in what felt like less than a second. But at least I found what was causing my machine to delay shutdown.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE: solution stopped working<\/strong> . This post helped solve the problem<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/whereofwecannotspeak.wordpress.com\/2007\/12\/25\/unmount-samba-filesystems-before-shutdown-or-reboot\/\">https:\/\/whereofwecannotspeak.wordpress.com\/2007\/12\/25\/unmount-samba-filesystems-before-shutdown-or-reboot\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In \/etc\/default\/grub<\/p>\n<p><code>sudo ln -s \/etc\/init.d\/umountnfs.sh \/etc\/rc0.d\/K15umountnfs.sh<br \/>\nsudo ln -s \/etc\/init.d\/umountnfs.sh \/etc\/rc6.d\/K15umountnfs.sh<\/code><\/p>\n<p>After that, shutdown\/restart happened in a flash (2 seconds maybe).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was having a 120 second delay in shutdown of my Linux Mint 17 Mate.
