Desktop, application defaults, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Copy all the files in that user&#8217;s home directory (be sure to show hidden directories) into etc\/skel (be sure to make a copy of skel just in case)<\/p>\n<p>Create a new user. Switch to that user and you will see everything just like the user you used to set this up.<\/p>\n<p>There are many files in the user home directory that are not really needed in skel (like .cache), but you can safely copy them all anyway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.linfo.org\/etc_skel.html\">http:\/\/www.linfo.org\/etc_skel.html<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is usually better to keep \/etc\/skel as small as possible and put system-wide configuration items into global configuration files such as <i>\/etc\/profile<\/i>. This is because the latter makes it much easier to update existing users&#8217; files because its settings take effect as soon as the system is turned on and apply to new users and old uses alike.<\/p>\n<p>When a user is removed from the system by an administrator with the <i>userdel<\/i> command, that user&#8217;s home directory, including the files and directories that have been copied into it from \/etc\/skel, remains intact.<\/p>\n<p>The name of the directory <i>skel<\/i> is derived from the word <i>skeleton<\/i>, because the files it contains form the basic structure for users&#8217; home directories.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Setup a user just as you want all other users to experience.
