The Medford Council online videos changed format and location, making them much more difficult to download and take clips from. I found the location of the individual files and I found a program to convert the Flash files into AVI or MPG format.
The new location is:
http://video.cityofmedford.org/video/council/
The unfortunate thing is that they are all in Flash format (*.flv) which is not a simple viewing format like *.avi or *.mpg.
To convert them I use VideoCoder from
http://www.freewarefiles.com/program_6_81_18085.html
After installing the program:
1. Drag and drop the .flv files you downloaded into the large white area in Media Coder
2. Click on the Video tab in the lower left-hand section on the window and select XviD in the Codecdrop-down menu, Formatshould be “default”.
3. Click the large Start button on the top tool bar to start transcoding your video.
4. When completed a window will prompt you saying that transcoding is completed, go to your file’s original location and an .AVI file should be there with the same file name. Now you can play it with Windows Media or your favorite media player.
To save it as *.mpg, instead of *.avi, select MPEG1instead ofXviD.
Before you play with any of the other settings save your settings…select “File” and “Save as preset”. I saved mine as “AVI” that way I can always come back to these default settings. Someday I’ll experiment will all those overwhelming options.
